Learning Reflection




Throughout the study in this course is learning how continuous texts fit together and the significance of discourse markers with attention to the development of theme in types of texts.

One is Personal Recount that is to retell of an activity that the writer has been personally involved in e.g. diary, etc. Second one is Factual Recount that is to record the particulars of an incident e.g. report of a science, experiment, etc. The last one is Imaginative Recount is to talk on an imaginary role and give details of events e.g. a day in the life of Roman Slave.
 At my point of view, I think it is exciting for me because I feel excited when I am reading text which is related to recount. I want to know what the author want to let me know about.

Descriptive is to describe a particular person, place or thing. This can make us visualize and understand a topic as well. Personally, this lesson is very hard because some adjectives are quite difficult to understand. I have to search them on search engine in order to see what they look like. So, it takes more time in searching some adjectives that are describe things and makes me tried to read continually.


Procedure is to tell the readers know how something is done or accomplished thought a sequence of actions or steps. In my opinion, I really like reading about procedure because I love having food a lot. Sometimes, when I finish reading, I also cook as the recipe too.

Comparison and Contrast pattern presents similarities and differences between two or more things.  Personally, I like this lesson because I would like to know how something is different by noticing the discourse markers both comparison and contrast.

Cause/Effect is used to show how the facts or concepts result due to other facts, events, or concepts.  To my way of thinking, this lesson likes problem and solution. So, it makes me confused when I am reading the text that is associated with it.


Definition is to let the readers know what technical terms are.  Personally, this lesson seems academic text and makes me bored. However, it helps us know the technical terms are by giving definition. Classification is to give the readers know how something is divided general concepts in to a number of different types. To my way of thinking, I love classification because it makes me know the categories of the topics what they have.


Exemplification is to use specific examples for the purpose of adding more information to explain. Personally, I love this lesson because I can know greatly what each of topics has examples.

(Solution) To my way of thinking, it likes cause and effect and makes me confused.




  It's time to ask question from this course.  


 What did you find easy? 

 To my way of thinking, procedure is easy for me. I really like reading about procedure because I love having food a lot.

 What did you find difficult? 

 From my point of view, "Cause and Effect" is very difficult because I have to analyze what is cause and what is effect. Moreover, its content seems like Problem and Solution. So, I sometimes feel confused when I read the text that is associated with cause and effect.

 How did you solve the problem? 

 I was pay attention every weeks and done more exercises both these handouts and English Reading books in order to practice and prepare myself before the class started. 

 What are you attitudes toward to the lesson? 

 In my opinion, I think this course is very significant for the students who attended this course. It can help them to easily understand the contents and use the discourse markers which got from this course in English reading either. However, the students should remind themselves that they should prepare themselves best. If they don't, they won't get everything from this course.

Problem and Solution Continues

I forgot to do the homework and I hurry to come the class for asked my friend to help me do the homework. Good luck my friend willing to help me. You are good guy!

On this day the professor just came to the class for gave me the corrective feedback and going to watch many videos of student that the teacher used to assign us to do it. My video was presented on this day too but my partner she got sick and can’t come to the class. I don’t know about her presentation point but I think the professor understand.

My video had something wrong about the detail on ingredients part, I and my friend didn’t told what the ingredient to cook this food but I have the picture…  I can’t edit it because I did it finish before the professor told me that I should to inform on this part. I made my video like a cooking show so I think it just maybe show only the picture like that.

Problem and Solution




            On Monday 24th April, I was study about Problem and Solution. So this is the last lesson for this year. After the professor came to room she explained me about meaning of two word.

1. Problem (n.) a situation, person, or thing that needs attention and needs to be dealt with or solved
2. Solution (n.)  The answer to a problem




And then, the professor gave me the handout and told me to skim it. After 3 minutes left the professor explained about the purpose of problem and solution. She told me to do the exercise on handout.  She taught us how to understand the passages where is a problem and a solution. Then, she told me to do it by myself.

Next step about the word that show what is problem and solution, there are so many the word to known such as conflict , crisis, or risk are the problem’s words however to address(it doesn’t mean the address where I live) , to answer or to solve are the solution’s words.

The professor told me to do the next exercise, after I finished she gave me the corrective feedback. She told me to do the other exercise and gave the corrective feedback again.

Finally, the professor told me to do all the exercise for homework and she will give the corrective feedback in the class on next Monday.

Today I think the professor had a good mood and happy and this is make me happy to.

Exemplification

And then, the professor explained me about “commonly used abbreviations and transitions in exemplification text. Then the professor told me to do the exercise 1, 2, 3 and 4 after we did it finished, the teacher gave us the corrective feedback of this text.

Definition and Classification




On Monday 3rd April, I was study “definition and classification”. There is a lot of activities for this unit.  The professor told me about the scores of midterm test before started the class. First of all, the professor explained about definition and classification on a projector. Then, she told me to read definition and classification on the projector. So, it had many examples.

The professor explained “The language of definition and classification” in the handout.

Cause and Effect




On Monday 20th March, I was study “Cause and Effect”. The professor opened the video of the fourth year student that was about how to cook fried rice. So, she assigned us to do this work.

The professor explained to me about Cause and Effect. After that she read the text example and practice for the student. Then she explained discourse markers of “cause and effect”. Next, the professor told me to read “The effect of stress” and answer questions below the text. So, I took a long time for doing this activity. After I did it finished, the professor read the text again for us and told me to find discourse marker of cause and effect.

"Procedure continues" and " Comparision and Contra...




On Monday 6th March, I studied “Procedure” and “Comparison and Contrast”. First of all, the professor told me to talk with my friend about “what did I do on weekend?” and then she gave me a handout.  After that, she read the text 3 in the handout that was about how to use a toaster. After she read it finished, she told me to do the exercises 1, 2, 3, and 5.

Next, she told me to open the first page of this handout. So, it was about the “purpose”, “types of procedural texts”, “text organization”, and “language features”. Next, the professor showed me some pictures and asked me how they’re different. So, she brought this toward the new reason that was “Comparison and Contrast”.

Comparison is to compare the two things or more over that are similarities. Then, she told me to compare between the high context culture student and the low context culture student so the example 1 was on the slide of the Microsoft PowerPoint. So, I wrote the diagram like this:

"Narrative continues" and "Descriptive"




On Monday 30th January, I studied narrative continued from the yesterday. And today I stated to study the Descriptive

The first, the professor told my friend to tell the story “the secrets” for the student who didn’t come to the class yesterday. After that, the professor explained me about the Narratives. Narrative is to entertain, gain, and held the reader’s interest in a story. There are many types of Narrative for the example, fairy stories, mysteries, science fiction, or romances etc. Furthermore, the focus of the text is a sequence of actions. Starting with an orientation and then complication, reach a peak to the climax, and finally resolution.

After the narrative is end. The professor was taught continued with Descriptive. And then, she gave me the new handout that was the “Descriptive”. Then, she drew the diagram on her computer. After that, she toil me to draw the diagram like this.

And then, she told me to add the information from the handout onto the diagram that I drew. The time was up. Finally, the professor told me to do that for the homework.

Procedure




รูปภาพที่เกี่ยวข้องOn Monday 20th February, the professor told me to talk with friend about “the foods that I had ever cooked” so, I told my friend that I had ever cook the Kimbab. It’s a snack food of Korean.

The professor opened the video on YouTube, it’s about the man who cooking the omelet. Then, she assigned the work for us to make the video about the food by we must do and explain how to do it. It made me very excited for this work.

And then, she gave us the handout that was about “Procedure”. The professor told me what is procedure? “it definition is “A fixed, step-by-step sequence of activities or course of action (with definite start and end points) that must be followed in the same order to correctly perform a task. Repetitive procedures are called routines. See also method.”

The students did all exercise on the handout. After i did it finished, she told me that “this is the time to do the test. Just then, the students prepared the chairs for doing the test quickly.

Descriptive continues




I were study descriptive continue from last week on Monday 6th February. When the professor came to the class, I was here that before. I never came late.

So, the activity A. was “Answer the questions based on the text.” And activity B. was “Match the word with the correct meaning.” After we did it finished, she gave us the corrective feedback.

Next, she told me read a text 2 “Budapest” After I finished read, I answer the questions below the text. After I did it finished, she gave us the corrective feedback. Next, we read the text 3. It is “Prague” that is the city in Europe. After I finished read, she told me to do the activity below this text. But she gave me the corrective feedback while I was doing this activity.

Narrative continues





On Sunday 29th January, I studied narrative continued from the last week. So, today was makeup class because of the Monday 13th was a holiday.

The professor came to the class and start the lesson today with explanation the story “the secrets”. Then she read the part one finished she told me to make a group for four people to complete the summary of the first part of the story. And then, she told us to choose the represents of each group to read the sum-up in front of the classroom. So, I was a represent of my group.

After she read it finished, she told us to do the activity “C” that was “Put the sentences in the right order to produce a summary of the second part of the story.  After that I did the exercise in the handout.

Finally, we opened page13 ‘the diagram’ that we had ever done it since the first time that we learned this lessons. So, we crossed it again and we did it follow the story.

"Recount continues" and "Narrative"




On Monday 23th January, I studied recount continues and narrative. So, I learned 2 Chapters today. When the time was appropriate to study, the professor checked our names and let me discussed with my friend about “what did I do on weekend” After the students shared the experiences finished, she gave me the corrective feedback in the handout that she assigned it last week.

She told us to make a group and summarize the text on the handout. After we summarized finished, the represent of each group told the story that they summarized in front of the class.



Next, the teacher gave me the handout that was “Chapter 2: Narrative”. The professor didn’t explained about this lesson but she started with let me read the text inside. The text was the story about Kylie.  And then the professor asked in the class “What’s about this story?” so many ideas from the students. For instance: the good story of the childhood, the behavior when he or she was young, and the bad story of the childhood, etc. Then, she told me to read the story in the first paragraph and she asked “What is happened in the story”. And she chose someone to tell that.

 Finally, the time was up. Therefore, the teacher assigned us to read the stories part 1 and part 2 for homework.

Recount




On Monday 16th January, I was study recount but today has something wrong about air conditioning. It didn’t work. Therefore, I must study in the bad environment.

After the professor came to the class and checked members, she gave me a handout about the recount.  It had three topics 'Text organization, News's title, and Language features'. She explained the text was the structure of the text and let me to analyze the relation of the text organization, story, and language features.  And then, she told us to do the exercise 1 that was about analyzing the text. So, it was the personal recount. After I did it finished, the maid of the HS building came to our class and interrupted while the professor was teaching us that “you must turn off the light bulbs and all electrical appliances”. Thus, I couldn’t study.

Suddenly, the maid came to class again and told me that I can use all electrical appliances include air conditioner. After that, the teacher explained us about the recount. And then, she told me to find “what is the Toraja”. While I were finding the Toraja, she opened the Toraja on a website. The pictures in this ceremony were very horrible. Then, she told me to read the text in exercise 2 that was “My Grandpa’s Funeral in Toraja”.

Finally, the time was up. She told me to do another exercise for the homework and she told me to write the recount about the past experience that was interesting onto my weblog.

Course introduction

After the professor Usa came to the class and checked the member, she asked ‘‘What is the discourse marker?'. And then, she told me how to speak with my friend about “what did I do on the last vacation?” I can't write anything prepared before discussing with my friend. I told my friend about my last vacation that I didn't go to anywhere, I just stayed at home alone and someday my parents take me to visit my grandparent.

After that, the professor Usa gave me the handout and the course outline. On the handout had three works. She assigned me to match the following words with the correct genres of text.
